Admissions, Costs and Financial Aid

Cal State Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ's online and hybrid programs are open to transfer students, graduate students, international applicants, and returning students. The application process and timeline depend on which program you're applying to and your prior academic background. This page walks you through how to apply, what it costs, and how to plan financial aid.

How to apply

All applications go through . Pick the path that matches your situation:

Application deadlines

Deadlines vary by program. Most undergraduate programs follow the CSU systemwide priority application window (typically October 1 to November 30 for fall, August 1 to August 31 for spring). Graduate programs set their own dates - some have rolling admissions, others have firm cutoffs.

Check your specific program's deadline before you apply. Email online@csueastbay.edu if you need help confirming.

Costs and tuition

Online and hybrid programs are charged at the standard CSU per-unit rate. There are no separate online tuition fees - you pay the same as on-campus students taking the same number of units.

Resident vs. non-resident

  • California residents pay the in-state per-unit tuition rate.
  • Non-residents (out-of-state and international) pay the non-resident rate, which is higher.
  • Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) reduces tuition for students from participating Western states (AK, AZ, CO, HI, ID, MT, ND, NV, NM, OR, SD, UT, WA, WY, plus US territories) for some programs.

Financial aid

More than million in financial aid is awarded annually across CSUEB. Most online and hybrid students qualify for at least one of these:

Federal aid

Pell Grants, Direct Loans, and work-study via the FAFSA. CSUEB's federal school code is 001138.

State grants

Cal Grant for California residents. State University Grant for need-based aid. Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ via FAFSA or CADAA.

Institutional scholarships

CSUEB scholarships and CSU systemwide awards. One application covers most of them.

Program-specific aid

Golden State Teacher Grant for credential candidates. CalWORKs. Veterans benefits. Major-specific scholarships.

File the FAFSA at as early as possible - California's priority deadline is typically March 2. The FAFSA opens October 1 each year.

Distance education state authorization

CSUEB is authorized to offer distance education in many U.S. states under federal regulations. Authorization status varies by state and by program, especially for programs leading to professional licensure (nursing, teaching credential, social work).

If you live outside California, please email online@csueastbay.edu before applying so we can confirm authorization for your state and program combination.
